Klein–Nishina Effect and the Cosmic Ray Electron Spectrum

نویسندگان

چکیده

Radiative energy losses are very important in regulating the cosmic ray electron and/or positron (CRE) spectrum during their propagation Milky Way. Particularly, Klein–Nishina (KN) effect of inverse Compton scattering (ICS) results less efficient high-energy electrons, which is expected to leave imprints on propagated spectrum. It has been proposed that hardening CRE spectra around 50 GeV observed by Fermi-LAT, AMS-02, and DAMPE could be due KN effect. We show this work transition from Thomson regime ICS actually quite smooth compared with approximate treatment adopted some previous works. As a result, spectral CREs cannot explained means an additional primary electrons needed. also provide parameterized form for accurate calculation energy-loss rate wide range.

Cosmic - Ray Electrons and the Diffuse Gamma - Ray Spectrum

Short Title: Cosmic-ray electrons and diffuse gamma-ray spectrum 1 Abstract The bulk of the diffuse galactic gamma-ray emission above a few tens of GeV has been conventionally ascribed to the decay of neutral pions produced in cosmic-ray interactions with interstellar matter. Cosmic-ray electrons may, however, make a significant contribution to the gamma-ray spectrum at high energies, and even ...

Inhomogeneity in cosmic ray sources as the origin of the electron spectrum and the PAMELA anomaly.

We show that inhomogeneity of cosmic ray (CR) sources, due to the concentration of supernova remnants (SNRs) towards the galactic spiral arms, can naturally explain the anomalous increase in the positron/electron ratio observed by PAMELA. We consistently recover the observed positron fraction between 1 and 100 GeV using SNRs as the sole source of CRs. The contribution of a few known nearby SNRs...

Diffuse Galactic Continuum Emission Measured by Comptel and the Cosmic-ray Electron Spectrum

Diiuse galactic continuum-ray emission in the 0.75-30 MeV range from the inner Galaxy has been studied using data from COMPTEL on the Compton Observatory. Observations of the inner Galaxy from the Sky Survey have been used. The imaging properties of COMPTEL enable spatial analysis of the-ray distribution using model tting. A model based on atomic and molecular gas distributions in the Galaxy ha...

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation

Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...

Possible Interpretations of the High Energy Cosmic Ray Electron Spectrum measured with the Fermi Space Telescope

The Fermi Large Area Telescope has provided the measurement of the high energy (20 GeV to 1 TeV) cosmic ray electrons and positrons spectrum with unprecedented accuracy. This measurement represents a unique probe for studying the origin and diffusive propagation of cosmic rays as well as for looking for possible evidences of Dark Matter. In this contribution we focus mainly on astrophysical sou...
